Our Mission & Story
Pioneering ecological conservation and sustainable practices in Romania since 2010
Our Journey
Lovermpierhead was born from a pivotal moment in 2010 when four passionate environmentalists met during a conservation crisis in the Carpathian Mountains. As logging threatened one of Romania's oldest forest ecosystems, Dr. Elena Dragomir, a conservation biologist, organized local resistance that ultimately saved over 200 hectares of pristine woodland.
This initial success inspired the creation of a permanent organization dedicated to environmental protection. The name "Lovermpierhead" combines elements from Romanian folklore—"loverm" referring to forest guardians and "pierhead" symbolizing a guiding beacon—representing our commitment to protecting natural ecosystems while guiding communities toward sustainable practices.
In our first three years, we focused primarily on forest conservation, establishing protected status for over 1,500 hectares of threatened woodland. By 2015, our scope expanded to include wetland restoration, particularly in the ecologically critical Danube Delta region, where we pioneered community-based conservation approaches that integrated traditional ecological knowledge with scientific management.
The 2017 Urban Green Initiative marked our entry into urban sustainability, transforming degraded city spaces into functional green infrastructure. Our headquarters in Cluj-Napoca became a model of sustainable urban development, featuring Romania's first publicly accessible living roof and vertical garden system.
Today, Lovermpierhead employs 28 full-time staff and coordinates a network of over 300 volunteers across Romania. Our interdisciplinary approach combines scientific research, community engagement, and policy advocacy to create lasting positive impact for both nature and people.

Our Mission & Values
Our Mission
To protect, restore, and enhance Romania's natural ecosystems through innovative conservation strategies, while empowering communities to become stewards of their environmental heritage. We strive to create harmony between human development and ecological integrity through science-based solutions, traditional wisdom, and collaborative action.
Ecological Integrity
We recognize the inherent value of all living systems and work to maintain their diversity, resilience, and evolutionary potential.
Community Empowerment
We believe that lasting conservation requires the active participation, traditional knowledge, and leadership of local communities.
Scientific Rigor
We ground our work in sound science, evidence-based approaches, and continuous learning to maximize ecological outcomes.
Systemic Thinking
We address environmental challenges by understanding interconnections between ecological, social, and economic systems.
Innovation
We embrace creative solutions and adaptive approaches that respond to changing environmental conditions and emerging knowledge.
Intergenerational Equity
We work to ensure that current actions preserve ecological opportunities and resources for future generations.
Our Team
Meet the dedicated experts behind Lovermpierhead's conservation initiatives. Our diverse team combines scientific expertise with passion for environmental stewardship.
Dr. Elena Dragomir
Founder & Executive Director
With a PhD in Conservation Biology from Oxford University, Elena has dedicated her career to protecting Romania's forest ecosystems. Her innovative approach to community-based conservation has been recognized with numerous international awards, including the European Conservation Leadership Medal.
Elena leads Lovermpierhead's strategic vision and oversees our scientific research initiatives while maintaining strong relationships with government agencies and international partners.
Mihai Antonescu
Lead Environmental Engineer
Mihai brings 15 years of experience in hydrological engineering and wetland restoration to our team. After working with the European Water Initiative, he joined Lovermpierhead in 2014 to lead our Danube Delta projects.
His pioneering work in developing low-impact restoration techniques has been adopted by conservation organizations throughout Eastern Europe and has helped restore over 3,000 hectares of degraded wetland.
Dr. Ana Vasilescu
Community Engagement Director
Ana holds a doctorate in Ecological Economics from the University of Barcelona and specializes in creating sustainable livelihoods that support conservation goals. She leads our community programs and educational initiatives.
Her innovative "Green Skills" training program has helped over 200 rural residents develop sustainable enterprises based on traditional ecological knowledge and modern conservation practices.
Adrian Popescu
Field Operations Manager
Adrian brings practical conservation expertise gained through a decade of work with the Carpathian Mountain Ranger Service. With a master's degree in Forestry and Restoration Ecology, he coordinates our on-ground conservation teams.
His expertise in alpine ecosystem management has been crucial for our high-altitude restoration projects, where he has pioneered techniques for revegetating fragile mountain habitats impacted by climate change.

What People Say
"Working with Lovermpierhead transformed our community's relationship with the surrounding forest. Their approach balances conservation science with deep respect for traditional knowledge. They didn't just protect our forests—they helped us develop sustainable livelihoods that depend on healthy ecosystems. Now our young people see a future here, connected to the land."
"As an urban planner, I was skeptical that significant ecological restoration was possible within our densely developed city. Lovermpierhead's innovative approach to urban green corridors proved me wrong. Their technical expertise combined with genuine community engagement created spaces that serve both people and biodiversity. The ecological corridor they designed has become the most beloved feature of our district."
"Our foundation has partnered with dozens of environmental organizations across Europe, and Lovermpierhead stands out for their rigorous scientific approach combined with exceptional community integration. Their wetland restoration methodology has become a model we recommend to other grantees. The transparent way they measure and communicate impact makes them ideal partners for long-term conservation investment."
